George Matthews first opened our doors in 1933. Since then we’ve expanded to over 3000 square feet of equipme
nt demonstration floor space. Packed with an Aladdin’s cave of up to date technologically advanced DJ, PA, Karaoke and Lighting equipment.
Throughout the store we have aimed to offer the chance of ‘hands on demos’ on as many products as possible, giving you the chance to ‘try before you buy’, to be sure of a satisfactory purchase.
We can offer you the chance of a demo of anything from a pair of headphones to a huge 21,000-watt Cerwin Vega PA system.

Such as Sunfly, Essential, Pocket Sings, Mastermix, Sound Choice and Music Maestro, to name but a few . If it’s specific songs you’re after we have a facility provided by ‘Proburn’ that enables you to compile and burn your own CDG karaoke dics instore.
Along with the discs we have many of the tools required for you to either enjoy a karaoke party at home or take to the road and professionally run a show. We can produce personalised song lists in store tailored to your karaoke show. We have many systems on working demo in our store, so why not try your hand at singing.
We work closely with some professional entertainment agencies, taking care of their artists
sound and light requirements. If you’re a professional artist or band, or even just starting out we can supply you with all the professional equipment you need to get out on the road; microphones, speakers, mixers, amplifiers and even the backing tracks if you’re solo! We have a large range of professional vocal microphones and PA systems, large and small, to suit all performers on any step of the stairway to fame. We almost insist that an artist tries the equipment before a purchase; we need to be sure that the equipment is suitable for your voice, transport and pocket. More importantly we need to be sure that you can set up the equipment once you get to your venue! So come on bring your backing tracks and come serenade us one afternoon, find the equipment that reproduces your voice the best and see how your performance can be improved.
Once you are happy with your sound equipment and tracks you’ll probably need to turn to lighting, an essential part to your show. Come and see our impressive computer controlled lightshow. Packed with the most up to date equipment, from a basic pinspot to intelligent robotic moving heads. We have many DJ effects at very competitive prices. Lighting for a small home party to a big road show. There is lighting for the solo performer with easy foot operated controllers and compact effects. We have large stage effects for big bands and cabaret shows too.
A recent addition to the Performers lighting world has been the PC, we now supply pc programmes and controllers that can completely run your show, Have your show completely controlled, your backing will be played for you, your effects unit switched to your presets, your smoke machine operated and more importantly your lights controlled to give a stunning slick light show. Don’t panic if it all sounds too much, training is 
available and we make sure that you’re happy with set up and operation before you leave the store.
We have forecourt parking and are Open 9.30 to 5.30 Monday to Saturday, so if you haven’t already, come and pay us a visit.
Installation services
We can offer you a solution to all your sound and light, servicing and installation problems. 
All our installation work is carried out by Rayburn Sound Services, part of the Matthews Group. Based at 138 Gooch Street, Birmingham City Centre. Established in 1984, they’ve been specialising in service and installation work within the entertainment industry for over 18 years. Working with companies such as the BBC, Carlton Television, Poundstretcher, What Everyone Wants, Birmingham Council, Bromsgrove Council, and Solihull Council. Giving them professional service, installation and hire of all the sound, light and visual equipment used in the entertainment industry. As 100 Volt Line PA specialists, Rayburnhave been spreading sound around some of the largest, factories, schools, leisure and shopping centres in the country.
Rayburn has a service centre, where bench repair work is carried out on all known brands of Sound and Lighting products. Rayburn’s skilled engineers have the knowledge to repair down to component level, offering you a competitive, cost effective repair. All work is undertaken on a quotation basis.
Once out on the road Rayburn’s range of services increase. No area to far and no venue too big. A full quotation and consultancy service is available on any service, supply and installation work you require. Service contracts also undertaken.

Hire department
Our hire department is based at Rayburn Sound Service, 138 Gooch Street, Birmingham, part of the Matthews Group Of Companies. Whether it’s a corporate, outdoor event or even a small house party Rayburn will cater for all your sound and light needs. They will hire 
everything from a small pa system to a huge 21.000-Watt rig. They also stock lighting up to intelligent level.
If your knowledge of PA and lighting equipment gives you concern on how to use it correctly and safely, an engineer can be supplied either to set up or monitor the equipment whilst hired. If you can’t collect or return the hire goods because of transport difficulties, they can be delivered to you and collected on completion of hire. Ask for details. Prices will vary on size of hire and distance travelled.
